This presentation will introduce the Indiana Supreme Court's new Office of Behavioral Health and the Indiana Council of Community Mental Health Centers' CMHC/CCBHC and Crisis Systems. It will address how the Indiana Council and Office of Behavioral Health work together to service those with mental illness and substance use disorder while encouraging strong relationships between local treatment providers and justice system providers. Then, speakers will take the audience on a journey across the state of Indiana, highlighting examples of these partnerships fostered and the impact on their communities as a result. And finally, hear from a team of interdisciplinary professionals in-action that will discuss the benefits of collaboration and where to start in your own community.

Sheriff Thompson wrote the book, Anyplace but Here, The Uncomfortable Convergence Between Mental Illness and the Criminal Justice System because he saw the lack of responsiveness and ultimately, the dysfunction effecting both systems in our nation. In his presentation, the sheriff will try to explain how we got here and why we can/should do better.

Continuing education credits are available with registration:

● ILEA credits for law enforcement
● CLE/NLS for attorneys & judges
● CEUs for certified recovery specialists/community health workers
All continuing education credits are included with registration and are offered at no additional cost. It is up to the individual to properly record CEUs by visiting the registration table and requesting certificate of attendance at the end of the event.
Thanks to the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction (DMHA), a limited number of scholarships are available to individuals impacted by mental illness or their family members who wish to attend NAMI Indiana's 22nd annual Mental Health and Criminal Justice Summit. The deadline to apply is February 16, 2025. 2
