NAMI Indiana's experience and advocacy in the criminal justice field is broad and deep. If a person’s mental health treatment and/or support system is weak, broken, or absent, they may come into contact with the criminal justice system. Once that contact occurs, because of the dangers and threats inherent in our criminal justice systems, our communities must invest an incredible amount of resources to bring our friends and neighbors back into positions where they can again begin to recover, grow, and attain a functional quality of life.
NAMI Indiana provides a multitude of supports and opportunities for advocacy within the criminal justice systems including technical assistance for crisis intervention teams, Sequential Intercept Mapping workshops, trainings and programs specifically for law enforcement, and an entire summit centered around the continued advancement of mental health services and support within the criminal justice system.
