NAMI Indiana's experience and advocacy in the justice field is broad and deep. If a person’s mental health treatment and/or support system is weak, broken, or absent, they may come into contact with the justice system. Once that contact occurs, because of the dangers and threats inherent in our justice system, our communities must invest an incredible amount of resources to bring our friends and neighbors back into positions where they can again begin to recover, grow, and attain a functional quality of life.

NAMI Indiana provides a multitude of supports and opportunities for advocacy within the justice systems, including technical assistance for crisis intervention teams, Sequential Intercept Model mapping workshops, trainings, and programs specifically for law enforcement, first responders, and professionals working in the justice system and an entire summit centered around the continued advancement of mental health services and support within the justice system.
