Education from NAMI Indiana

Educate & Empower

NAMI Indiana works with affiliates throughout the state to offer free, NAMI signature programs for the general public. NAMI's educational programs are backed by research and peer-led.  Each is designed to meet the needs of its target audience. Classes emphasize the importance of hope and community, while providing insights into challenges related to mental illness.

NAMI Basics is a 6-session education program for parents, caregivers and other family who provide care for youth (ages 22 and younger) who are experiencing mental health symptoms. This program is free to participants, 99% of whom say they would recommend the program to others. NAMI Basics is available both in person and online through NAMI Basics OnDemand.
This course is also available in Spanish, Bases y Fundamentos de NAMI.

NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, 8-session educational program for family, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. It is a designated evidenced-based program. This means that research shows that the program significantly improves the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to a person with a mental health condition.

NAMI Family-to-Family is taught by NAMI Indiana trained affiliate leaders and volunteers. These are family members who have been there and understand. The course includes presentations, discussions and interactive exercises.

NAMI Peer-to-Peer is a free, eight-session educational program for adults with mental health conditions who are looking to better understand themselves and their recovery.

The course is taught by NAMI Indiana trained leaders and volunteers with lived experience. NAMI Peer-to-Peer includes activities, discussions and informative videos. However, as with all NAMI programs, it does not include recommendations for treatment approaches.

This program is also available in Spanish, De Persona a Persona de NAMI.

NAMI Family & Friends is a free 90-minute or four-hour seminar that informs people who have loved ones with a mental health condition how to best support them. It’s also an opportunity to meet other people in similar situations and gain community support. This education class can be facilitated by NAMI Indiana and trained affiliate leaders.

NAMI Sharing Hope is designed to introduce discussions on mental health and wellness in Black/African ancestry communities through a three-part community conversation series grounded in the sharing of sacred stories and guided dialogue on mental wellness and support. Please contact NAMI Indiana if you are interested in being trained to bring this conversation to your community.
